PEELS - THE PROCEDURE

Alphahydroxy Acids (AHAs)

Alphahydroxy acids including glycolic, lactic or fruit acids, are the mildest of the peel formulas and produce light peels. These types of peels can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin.

Recovery times are short and therefore particularly useful for people who can't spare the time to recover from a deeper peel.

Varying concentrations of an AHA are applied weekly to obtain the best result. Alphahydroxy acid can also be mixed with a facial wash or cream in a lower concentration as part of a daily skin-care regimen.

Uses
  • Smoothes rough, dry skin.
  • Improves texture of sun-damaged skin.
  • Helps to control acne.
  • Can be used to prime the skin for a more even TCA peel.

Considerations

* A series of peels is needed.

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA)

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used in varying concentrations to produce different depths of peeling. It is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling.

Uses
  • Smoothes out fine surface wrinkles.
  • Removes superficial blemishes.
  • Corrects some pigmentry problems.

Considerations
  • Treatment takes 15-20 minutes
  • Can be used on neck or other body areas
  • Optimal results obtained when pre-treating with Vitamin A or AHA creams
  • More than one TCA peel may be needed to achieve the desired result.
  • Repeat treatment may be needed to maintain results
