Side Effects
- Recovery following a mastopexy is generally quick
- Temporary bruising, swelling and discomfort are inevitable
- Temporary numbness of either the breast skin or nipple may occur
Risks
- Delayed wound healing. Unfavourable scarring with keloid formation
- Infection
- Asymmetric nipple position or breast shape
- Permanent loss of feeling in the nipples and/or the breast skin
Recovery
Discomfort during the first 2-3 days is controlled with pain medications. Patients can usually return to work within a week to 10 days. Strenuous activities may be recommenced between a month and 6 weeks.

Scars are taped and topical vitamin A applied to optimize healing and prevent stretching. The fading of scars may take between 6 months and 2 years.
Results
Varies from patient-to-patient. Factors that may result in recurrent breast ptosis include pregnancy and weight fluctuations.
With advancing age and the continued effects of gravity some sagging is to be expected. This is more likely to occur in larger breasts.
